BEYOND ASIA. The indiscrete fascination of Asian art in the era of globalization- Encounter: HOU HANRU & PIER LUICI TAZZI

April 2005 – Fine Arts Academy, Florence

An encounter dedicated to the present-day problems and ideas based on the process of global transformation and the emergence of cultures, such as those in Asia, which differ from those of the West, on the world scene.

Two prominent international guests participated in the encounter: Hou Hanru, an independent Chinese curator and critic who has been working for years on such subjects as globalization, urbanization – especially on the explosive expansion of urban spaces in the regions of Asia and the Pacific – and identity.

Pier Luigi Tazzi, an independent curator and critic, as well as a profound connoisseur of present-day Asian art, to which he has dedicated the recent exhibition, “The Barbaric Invasions,” held at the Continua Gallery in San Gimignano (February – April 2005) which confronted nine artists coming from six Asian countries who differed profoundly in their histories, traditions, socio-economic and political roots.
